Late Imperial Legacies: Land, Water, and Long-Run Development in China

University of Chicago Professor Kenneth Pomeranz, author of The Great Divergence: China, Europe, and the Making of the Modern World Economy, will lecture about the distinctive qualities of China prior to the industrial revolution and ask what difference those qualities have made (and continue to make) in the long term.

Professor Pomeranz's visit is co-sponsored by the history departments of Claremont McKenna, Pomona, and Scripps colleges.
